Temi di ricerca
I am Full Professor of Geography at the Polytechnic of Turin, Italy, and Visiting Professor of Urban Studies at the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. I'm a member of the grassroot activist group Common Front for Housing Rights (Bucharest), co-founder and editor of the Radical Housing Journal (www.radicalhousingjournal.org) and corresponding editor at IJURR. My work focuses on the embodied experience of homelessness, radical forms of inhabitation and the politics of life at the margins in the contemporary urban. In recent years I focused on Bucharest, Romania, where I conducted a multi-sited ethnographic on racialised dispossession, which resulted also in the first feature documentary around Roma-led housing struggle in Europe entitled It started raining (www.ainceputploaia.com)
I have published interdisciplinary in journals such as EPD: Society and Space, IJURR, Urban Studies, Cultural Anthropology. Recent volumes include ‘Global Urbanism’ (Routledge, with Colin McFarlane), the forthcoming ‘Urban Grammars’ (Duke University Press, with Ash Amin), and the monograph For a Liberatory Politics of Home, contracted with Duke University Press.
In Turin I just begun working on a 5-year European Research Council starting grant project entitled Inhabiting Radical Housing and, in 2022, he will launch a 'Beyond Inhabitation' research lab, co-directed with AbdouMaliq Simone.
My full employment is with DIST at the Polytechnic of Turin, therefore you can find my full profile at: https://www.dist.polito.it/en/personale/scheda/(nominativo)/michele.lancione
